What is West Coast Swing?
West Coast Swing (WCS) is a partner dance rooted in the Lindy Hop tradition, known for its smooth, slotted style and musicality. Unlike many ballroom dances, WCS is highly improvisational — partners interpret the music together in the moment, making every dance unique. It's danced to a wide range of music including blues, pop, funk, and contemporary hits, which makes it one of the most versatile and fastest-growing social dances in the world.
WCS events attract dancers at all levels — from Newcomer and Novice through Intermediate, Advanced, All-Star, Sophisticated, Champion, and Invitational. The competitive format most associated with WCS is the Jack & Jill, where leaders and followers are randomly paired, alongside the Strictly Swing format for established partnerships.
What is the WSDC?
The World Swing Dance Council (WSDC) is the governing body for West Coast Swing competitions worldwide. It maintains a global points registry — dancers accumulate points at WSDC-registered events to advance through divisions. An event must apply and be approved to become a WSDC Registry Event, which guarantees a minimum standard of competition format and judging.
Westie Hub lists 559 WSDC-registered events worldwide (151 upcoming right now), sourced directly from the WSDC registry. This includes both Registry Events (full points events) and Trial Events (events working toward full registry status).
